Leh 2010: A Trip of a Lifetime - 2

The first night halt was at Mandi and the second night we stopped at Keylong or Kyelang as it is officially known. The landscape changed the moment we descended from the Rohtang Pass. This pass is the point where we cross over the Eastern Pir Panjal mountain range. South of the Rohtang is the Kullu-Manali valley while across, to the North of the pass lies the Lahaul-Spiti valley.

Enroute to Manali we came across a group of cyclists who were cycling uphill...and people call US mad?

Sights and sounds during the trip. A wild ashy grey cat contemplates the road ahead!

Where the roads were good, they were very good...

...where they were bad they were terrible!

The beauty of motorcycling is that you are travelling in the environment...unlike in a car where you are encapsulated in your own air-conditioned environ (not a bad thing in a city, though). We stopped at many places to soak in the scenery and reflect in general.

This is me reflecting on the odometer as a truck rolls by!

Slate-roofed houses and lush green fields make an awesome combination.

Beautiful birds added to the pleasure of the trip.
A pair of Rock Buntings Emberzia cia survey the scene.

More follows...
