Pujo 2009

Shib Mandir
This was a banana leaf sculpture of a human pyramid of dhunuchi dancers at the Shib Mandir Pandal.
Green Tower, Golf Green

This is a nice protima from a very small and private 'building'er' pujo...a pujo conducted by the residents of a multistoreyed building. Very small and with a limited budget compared to the bigger 'para'r' pujos, these make up in spirit, bonhomie and fervour.

Ekdalia Evergreen

Again one of the better known and high profile pujos of South Kolkata due to political patronage. This is a classical protima - grand and serene.

Lake Friends (I think!)

An extremely unusual protima which resembles cave engravings. The entire atmosphere was surreal and eerie. This was made of mud.

Shib Mandir

The theme for the Pujos this year was 'eco-friendly' or 'green' pujo. This entire 'protima' is made up of banana leaves. Look at the expression in the eyes of Ma Durga and then compare it with the eyes of the Lakshmi and Saraswati on either side. Her eyes have fire while the other two are more serene and peaceful.

Adi Ballygunge

One of the old and better-known Pujos of South Kolkata. The haze is due to the smoke from the 'dhuno'.
